Family Letter Folders
Our first "Letters to my Family" folders went home today. The children were so excited to embark on this project! On the first Friday of every month, your child will write a letter to you about their school days. Your job over the weekend is to sit down with your child and have him/her read it you and then write a response. Place the response in the page protector behind your child's letter. Return the folder Monday morning and your child will share the letter he/she wrote and the reply from home.
These letters are not corrected by me. This is done on purpose so you can see a true writing sample from your child each month - see the improvement, read about their interests at school, and have a keepsake of their first grade year:)
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Have fun!
Xtra Math
We have begun using Xtra Math during our weekly visits to the Computer Lab. This is a free website for children to practice their math facts with the goal of being able to answer them in 3 seconds or less. The website begins with addition and carries each user all the way through division. There is an app that can also be downloaded (I believe it is $4.99) on Apple and Android products. Your child brought home a letter last week with his/her login information so you can get started at home. If you have not done so yet, please help your child to log on at home, as Xtra Math with soon be assigned as part of the weekly homework. It may also be something to try this weekend with all of the rain in the forecast. Remember - it is all about the process - the facts will come. This is just a fun way to get in some practice in a short ten minute session. Enjoy!
